"I am really looking forward to working with the calibre of players that we have in the squad as the future of the club looks bright."
- Aurelio Vidmar 2 May 2007

Adelaide United is going to miss the finals for the first time, in their brief but bright history. Aurelio Vidmar has inherited a grand final squad and has turned them in to the worst non-purple wearing team in the A-League.

Worse still, Vidmar's baptism was a painful 3rd placing in Group G of the Asian Champions League, propped up only by the Vietnamese champions who did not earn a single point.

Vidmar was hired for the A-League season despite the AUFC board voting for someone else. Someone with first team management experience. Someone who had vast experience with Australia's young football talent.

Despite numerous injuries Vidmar has shown his inadequacies as a first team coach. Airing public spats toward senior players and using their performances as excuses is the last straw. Vidmar chose the squad and recruited the injury cover. Vidmar must face the music. It's time that Adelaide United had a proven, experienced manager and that hiring another ‘apprentice’ should never again be considered as an option.
